Bottom Bracket - How do you know you need a new one?

I run with an Ultegra setup and have been on current bottom bracket for about 7,000 miles. I don't ride much in the rain and have not abused the bike. Is it wise to change out the BB preventatively at a certain point?

Take the crank off and grab the spindle ends. If you can wiggle the spindle, that's bad. Now turn the spindle with your fingers. If it feels like someone put rocks in your bearings, that's bad. If it doesn't wiggle and it spins smooth, that's good. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've got 6500 on mine, and it's still fine. Unless there's a problem, save your cash.
