I installed a new 10sp Shimano compact crankset w/external BB on my older Planet X. It works fine. the problem came up when I tried to change the rings for cross season and I put a 36t ring on, the teeth rubbed against the frame. I switched back to the 34t, not too big a deal, but I also wanted to try a single ring up front, say 40t. If I mount this on the inner side it wont work.

Is it possible (or even a good idea) to shim the drive side bb cup to allow for a larger inner ring? Or am I just stuck with this setup?

Thanks for any input. Cross is coming....
