Ran across this Brady Bunch episode on a video-hosting website featuring Peter working at a bike shop. Episode is from 1973, the same year as my Huffy road-bike so it was interesting. The bike on the stand Peter is working on has a Shimano Eagle derailleur and the same chrome spoke-protector as my road bike. Lots of other period bikes in the show too.

Mr. Miyagi opened his bike shop back in 1961, and originally sold Raleighs, which were a good deal back the. But by the late 60's, Raleigh prices had gone up and quality had gone down, so he looked for a second line to sell to make up the difference.

He ended up selling C. Itoh bikes but almost immediately regretted the choice, considering how many of them needed work! He was so busy fixing these cheap, junky bikes that he had to hire a helper. Unfortunately, nobody wanted to work on them except this one middle school kid named Bobby.

After a few months, Bobby still hadn't caught on to how bike repair really worked. After that screwup when the kid tried to screw a regular bottom bracket into a long-time customer's Raleigh, he was considering firing Bobby, but luckily the kid had started high school and needed time to spend on his homework, so he reluctantly quit. After a couple more years with reduced sales, he turned his shop into a dojo.
