Building a belfry for my bats

In October, we inherited an old 15 inch, cast iron bell from my brother in law. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE big bells and to be honest, I have been searching for a large bell for years but when it comes to bells, sound is key and iron is not my first choice...bronze is. HOWEVER, This belonged to my brother in laws parents and it has sentimental value to him, but he has no place for it. On the way home from their place my wife and I were talking and I informed her that I was going to build a bell tower for the garage. She thought about it for a minute then came up with a far better plan. It should go on the top of the playhouse in the yard! The grandkids would LOVE it.

So I started to build it yesterday.

I am going to drill througgh the roof for the rope to ring it.

I can't put it in place until the ground freezes because I need to use the Bobcat to hoist it into place and it would trash my lawn to get in and out, so I will wait.

I will post up a picture of the playhouse tomorrow, it's dark now

That's pretty cool. And you're a good guy... you're putting the bell ringer within the kids reach. I don't know your grandkids but I know what that would have meant when my kid was little.

I have a couple of small bronze bells in the house that they love playing with. It's not like they live here so.......

... going to drill through the roof for the rope to ring it.
then all the men of the neighborhood will come by and help you hoist your barn.

What will be next? Interior circular staircase to a widows walk? Then a zip line to another part of the yard? How about a functional water tower so the grand kids can get their graffiti on?

actually, the playhouse already has a loft in it, that has to count for something

Yep, that counts. I just want to plant some ideas to see how crazy we can make you with additions. It's not like you don't have a history of going all in on "projects".

Hear the tolling of the bells --
Iron bells !
What a world of solemn thought their monody compels !
In the silence of the night,
How we shiver with affright
At the melancholy meaning of their tone !
For every sound that floats
From the rust within their throats
Is a groan.
And the people -- ah, the people --
They that dwell up in the steeple,
All alone,
And who, tolling, tolling, tolling,
In that muffled monotone,
Feel a glory in so rolling
On the human heart a stone --
They are neither man nor woman --
They are neither brute nor human --
They are Ghouls: --
And their king it is who tolls ;
And he rolls, rolls, rolls, rolls,
Rolls
A pæan from the bells !
And his merry bosom swells
With the pæan of the bells !
And he dances, and he yells ;
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the pæan of the bells --
Of the bells :
Keeping time, time, time,
In a sort of Runic rhyme,
To the throbbing of the bells --
Of the bells, bells, bells --
To the sobbing of the bells ;
Keeping time, time, time,
As he knells, knells, knells,
In a happy Runic rhyme,
To the rolling of the bells --
Of the bells, bells, bells --
To the tolling of the bells,
Of the bells, bells, bells, bells --
Bells, bells, bells --
To the moaning and the groaning of the bells.
