I have old school 1992 campy ergo shifter 8 speed on an old 2.8 cannondale. problem is when you spin the crank back wards it wants to jump down a gear on the rear gears, I cant figure what the hell is going on. The chain wants to ramp off on the top side of the gear, any idea? Thanks for any help

Your chanline might be off? The derailleur hanger might be bent to the outside? Just some ideas,

It depends on which gear you are starting with and the newness of the chain. I noticed the very same thing on my nephew's junk bike and it turns out to be a poor chain line and a stiff chain. Starting on the larger cogs it will shift to the middle of the cassette if I pedal it backwards. None of my other bikes do this. The BB spindle was too long to begin with and the right side crank arm sits about a quarter inch further out than it should be.
