I am getting back into cycling after being out 8 years. I was fairly competitive in triathlon and then switched to distance running until just recently when I decided to go back to cycling to save my body. I want to do some racing (maybe 3 or 4 a year) but will mostly do fast group rides and centuries. I have looked at Giant TCR and a few other carbon bikes but would like to spend closer to the $1500 range for a used bike. Do I need all carbon? Are Fuji, Scattante or any other lower-priced carbons any good? If I go for aluminum with carbon fork/seatstay will I get a better deal with the same performance? Any advice appreciated.
