One of the biggest complaints among veteran users is newbies or people who haven't posted in years are making threads in the wrong subforums. The problem isn't just user error, though. The subforums are not in an intuitive order.

I recommend the following order:

Beginners Corner
Bikes, Frames, and Forks
Wheels and Tires
Components and Wrenching
Apparel and Cycling Clothes
Women's Cycling
Hot Deals
Commuting and Touring
Endurance Riding
Racing, Training, Nutrition
Coaching
Cyclocross
Fixed/SS
Tandems
Retro/Classic
Pro Cycling
Doping
Save Some Weight
General Cycling Discussion
[All regional subforums]
[All manufacturers subforums]
Lounge
Politics Only

I know this can be done because last summer the Pro Cycling Tour de France (formerly just Pro Cycling) forum was both renamed and moved to the top and then moved back down after the TdF finished.

To further simplify things, I'd think that 1/2 of those are hardly ever used and could disappear.

PO could be it's own forum, so that it has the prominence it needs  and doesn't infect the rest of the site.

Even though I don't agree w/the proposed order it's an improvement over the current.

My preference for re-order is below:

[ Classic Forums ]

General Cycling Discussion
Beginner's Corner
Bikes, Frames and Forks
Wheels and Tires
Components, Wrenching
Apparel and Cycling clothes
Hot Deals
Women's Cycling+

[ Racing Forums ]

Racing, Training, Nutrition, Triathlons
Coaching
Pro Cycling - Tour de France
The Doping Forum

[ Rides Forums ]

Commuting, Touring and Ride Reports
Endurance Riding
Retro-Classic
Fixed/Single Speed
Cyclocross
Save Some Weight
Tandems

[ Non Cycling Forums ]

The Lounge
Politics Only

Hey Sauron, I'm here.

I understand the desire to simplify things. No doubt.

However, I don't really get your order. It's kinda all mixed up too.

I think Arai_speed's suggestion is decent. I'll need some time to process this.

Thanks for the offer to help.

IMHO the important part is that
General Cycling Discussion
should be "last" as a catch-all -- right now it's the first thing users see and post almost everything there
even though that are more appropriate / specific forums.

Not bad. This is what I would recommend:

Apparel and Cycling Clothes
Beginners Corner
Bikes, Frames, and Forks
Classifieds/Hot Deals
Coaching
Commuting, Touring & Ride Reports
Components and Wrenching
Cyclocross
Doping
Endurance Riding
Fixed/Single Speed
Miscellaneous (replaces General Cycling Forum)
Pro Cycling
Racing, Training, Nutrition, Triathalons
Retro-Classic
Save Some Weight
Tandems
Wheels and Tires
Women's Cycling

[All regional subforums]
[All manufacturers subforums]

I think one of the main problems is that people want their post to be seen by the most number of visitors, so they post in General Cycling Forum. If you tuck this away into the middle of the list and call it "Misc", I think that would chance this behavior drastically.

Plot twist: Don't have a General/Misc forum so users are forced to pick the closest subforum related to their inquiry.

Oh, that would certainly be interesting. Can you imagine the OPs who post stuff like "How many bikes in your stable" or "How old is everyone here" randomly choosing a subforum for this stuff? And where would the ASFOS types of the world delight us with their rapier wit?

As of now I've had systems requests go through Applied Materials faster. If you've ever worked with AMAT, that's saying something.
