I am looking at purchasing a new bike. My choices are down to the Cannondale Synapse 10 or Scott CR1 Team 09. Both are about the same price ($50.00) difference and have 105 on them. The CR1 does have an ultegra rear.

Should I go Alum(Synapse) or Carbon (CR1)?

The synapse won the best comfort bike from bicycling magazine. That's not saying much, but I also test rode the synapse and its freaking smooth. Like butter on the road. I really like the carbon 4.

The Cr1 may br a Tad lighter tho.

i'd hope he would be comparing carbon bikes to carbon. doesn't make sense to do Alu vs carbon.

I really like the Synapse Carbon 4, minus the shitty brakes and crank =(

I got the Synapse Carbon 5 a couple of weeks ago after riding a Fisher mountain bike. Being an older rider, I was looking for smooth and the Synapse delivers. I tried several other bikes but keep going back to the Cdale. Bicycling's review swayed me also since they said that is the bike they would choose for all day riding. Skyliner 1004 is right, it's like butter on the road. I told my friend it's like riding a magic carpet. Not saying the Scott is bad....
