hey, what's up. i come from a bmx background, and i'm workin on building my first road bike. i'm beggin, borrowin, and stealin to get it made, and learning as i go.

my question is ... i just got my wheels (velocity aeroheads - 61 bucks on ebay - sweet!), which are made for a 7-speed cassette. i purchased a generic cassette from my local bike shop (performance bikes, sf, ca) and it seems to need about a 1/8" spacer. in other words, it slides slightly left to right on the hub.

is a spacer like this a normal part?
where can i get one?
do i put it on the spoke side or the frame side?

someone help a brother out?

C-40, thank you for the link! i've bookmarked it, and will buy, buy, buy.

TurboTurtle, i think that's probably what's going on. the mechanic over at performance mis-measured the hub or did something else that led me astray, and i bought a 7-speed cassette for an 8/9 speed hub. but i'm going the spacer route, vs. replacing the entire cassette, as i want MINIMUM speeds. (i'm not even running a front derailleur. one gear in front, 7 in back.)

so big ups to the both of ya.
