my current setup is:
sora shifters...going to upgrade to ultegra ST-6603 triple/10-speed shifters
stock triple crank
stock triple FD
dura-ace 7800 9/10 speed compatible RD
stock 9-speed cassette...going to upgrade to ultegra CS-6600 10-speed cassette

question is, can i use my stock crank and FD w/ the planned upgrade? i'm going to upgrade the FD and crank eventually but it's on the back burner for now.

thanks, folks.:)

I don't see any reason why it would not work.

Is the chain any thinner with the 10 spd setup... might have to change the chain rings but I don't know for sure.

oh, that makes a lot of sense. my buddy just told me that i'll need a new chain going from a 9 to a 10 speed because the spacing is a bit different.

as for the FD, is there a difference as far as trim adjustments w/ a 9 and 10 speed?

10 speed FD's have a narrower cage for the thinner chain.
That being said I ran 10 speed with a 9 speed FD without any trouble (ultegra double)
Best to try it & see if you are satisfied with the shifting performance
