Ahh, just got in after doing the lakefront path (all 50 some odd miles of it) and while it was a bit cold the notion of mid 50's is just makin' me all warm inside. That being said- I assume all of you nuts will be out riding this weekend, I'll be alone as I have yet to sign up for any clubs this year. I am curious as to who belongs to which club, what their experiences with said organization have been, and where they will be riding this weekend (club or solo) Danka.

Chicago Clubs

Well i used to ride for SCW(south chicago wheelmen).then they let me go and that was the biggest mistake they ever made. Then i rode for Straight Up Cyclery for a short period of time. I am in europe riding for an Elite team based in the UK now but when i come back to Chicago to see my family i ride with my father on RDS.

Well, I've been with Alberto's Sport for nigh on 10years now, and it's a good group of folks. Depends on where you live as to what group is most convenient to join up with. On the North Side, Turin has good rides, as does Velo Club Roubaix (VCR). There is also the "Judson" ride, which is a bit cutthroat, so higher skill level there needed.

That being said, you just have to try them out - call the shop to find out what time the rides meet. Alberto's leaves at 8AM tomorrow from the shop in Highland Park (1770 First St., just west of the Metra stop). This is a good time of the year to scope things out and see what is right for you, as no one is fit and the pace should be easy.

More importantly, get out and ride! ;)

Signed up to ride with XXX/Athletico this season... assuming they let me show up again after I bonked on this mornings' team ride. Everything was fine and then BAM - no mas. Been riding 1-2 hours a day on the trainer, but that's a far cry from 90 miles and five hours. Giddy up!

Been with them for 4 years now. Great club. Before that, I rode with Midwest Masters, Redline, and Great Plains.
As for today, I went out and rode with the group that rides out of St Charles. After an hour my legs and lungs gave out, so I rode back with a group of 10. 45 miles today, and I plan another 45 tomorrow. Small steps first.

I rode with Abd for the 4 Bridges of Elgin U23 race.very good team. i have known about them for a very long time but have never joined them until 2003's race. I have nothing but good comments about them.although i didnt do as well as i hoped to do they were supportive of me.i hope to race with them in the future if not someone else.

Solo

Got in a ride along the lakefront this morning too (and will probably ride Sunday). No club but I do a fair amount of solo riding and have a rotating group of buddies that I ride with on and offroad.

Steve-O, What time are you on the path? What's your setup? I usually ride the path solo on the weekends (9-10am or if it was a Hopleaf night 10-12) and after work during the week. I'm on a red TCR, black helmet, and blue shoes... if ya ever see me holler out!!

Sorry about the late reply...

Got out about 10:45am on Sunday. Started with a group of four including a rider from SRAM. Picked up another guy I know along the bike path and rode up to Hollywood and then down to the point and back...

Lots of team riders out on Sunday. I saw (got passed) by Higher Gear, Albertos, and XXX racing jerseys. The current ride's a Ti framed Guru (see below). I'll keep an eye out for the TCR ;-)
