It's easy to miss the details of Chrome's Dresden Suede Shoes at first glance, but they're there. In a casual low profile shoe that works on the bike, in the office, and even after hours. The Dresden is a commuter shoe in disguise, simply designed swanky suede, but packed with plenty of biking friendly details. It offers a skid resistant rubber sole, vulcanized construction, a "lace cage" (for the metal capped laces), and a low profile - that makes slipping in and out of toe clips easy.
When I first slipped into these shoes, I was pleasantly surprised by how soft and comfortable the shoe was. I thought to myself, no way would these shoes hold up to the abuse of everyday wear on and off the bike. After several months of use, the shoes have proven me wrong. The company that built itself up by sticking to their ethic of functional products that people can rely on did just that with these shoes.
The suede makes wearing these shoes almost feel like slippers because of how soft the material surrounds your foot. The soles aren't the stiffest around, but they're grippy and do the job well enough. The fact that they're not overly stiff is the reason you can wear them on and off the bike for all day use.
The suede itself has held up quite nicely and shows these shoes are built with durability in mind. You may want to acquire a stiff brush and possibly some scotch guard waterproof protection to keep them looking their best though.
One small thing we should also mention, the reflective patch on the heel of the shoe is subtle, but makes a huge difference on the bike when cars approach. A small but thoughtful addition.
Overall, the Dresdens probably wouldn't fit the bill for long extended rides, but for the commute around town and everyday wear, we'd definitely recommend them.
