It is really only just California cold (descents feels like 40°F).

MY COLD WEATHER KIT:
-medium-light wool socks (no boot covers)
-leg warmers
-summer shorts
-synthetic base layer
-long sleeve jersey (wind stopping)
-nylon vest (wind stopping)
-arm warmers (non summer weight)
-full fingered / knitted gloves (not as warm as cross country ski gloves)
-synthetic balaclava* (semi lightweight but only for California winter weight) [*I found that my nose, mouth and chin was numb in ways that needed to be warmer. The balaclava provides plenty of warmth to the ears but is only a thinish layer for the head (nonear) coverage]

ABOUT THE RIDE:
The descent is about 10 minutes, the ascent is about 40 minutes. The net riding time is about 2hrs. The coldest period is the descent (most uncomfortable period). About 90% of the time I feel I'm dressed correctly (other than those cold 10 minutes).

Magically I'm still getting sick twice on the same route with similar dry-cold conditions. Any ideas? (normally I dont get sick from cycling alone x.x)
