I am in the process of building a new c50. I have a colnago headset that the aluminum compression plug appears to be too big to fit down in the steer tube. On previous builts (pinarello, litespeed w/reynolds) the plug fit loosely in the steer tube until you tightened the cap nut to expand the plug. Am I not understanding something here? I can't imagine having to file the inside of a carbon steer tube or god forbid hammer the thing down in there. I think if I worked the inside of the steer tube with a high quality file or even a reeming bit I could get the plug in, but man that doesn't seem right?? Yes, I have totally disassebled the plug, so it is not expanded while I am trying to insert.
