I am thinking of changing my color scheme on my white Giant Defy, I was thing either orange or lime green tires and tape. What do you all think of the colored tires? Where can I get them in 700x25, I am a large guy and was told I need the 25 and cannot go with a 23, let me know your thoughts and if you have pics please post.

When it was time for me to get new tires, I was just going to go with standard black – as I always have. But I did not have time to order them – I needed them that day so I had to bite the bullet, go an LBS, pay full retail, plus they only had red tires in stock. Way too flashy for me I thought. The sales guy assured me that they would look good with my black bike. I did not think so but needed them so I got ‘em.

Guess what…I love the color! They look hotter than a witch’s tata.

Anywhoo, orange or lime green sounds awful to me but so did red. Tons of places you can buy tires…try bike tires direct or any number of other on line places. Even Amazon.

As for the size, I don’t know what you mean by big but suspect that 23’s would not explode under you. However, my strong guess is that you will be much happier with 25’s. So I wouldn’t go so far as to say you need 25’s, just that you should get 25’s.

Downside is you will be stuck reordering colored rear tires for quite a while
so make sure the infatuation is not temporary.

Some will do a facepalm but really I have nothing against colored tires. I have some Vittorias' that are red and black and I am getting some blue and black ones soon. I ride for myself so although I have some preferences or rules so to speak I try to not let others influence my decisions much. If it is something you like and somehow gets you on your bike that should be the important thing. I ride 23's but a lot of people swear by 25's for ride comfort. I find tire pressure can dictate that more so than tire size but I am 5'6" and 150 lbs so I think that the bigger guys could shed more light on that. What color is you bike BTW?

I was watching the race this weekend and saw some sweet colored tires... no... wait... they were all black. All of them. Black.

Most "roadie rules" are silly. But, there are some good ones:
- Bar tape matches saddle
- Bibs should not be white or any very light color... in the middle... front or back
- Tires are black

Not my preference, but if you like them, get them - that's all that matters.

I rode blue tires for a while. No problems except that I thought they got dirtier faster. Probably just a perception thing.

IMO all "roadie rules" are kinda funny. I once rode a bike with a red 25mm tire on the front, a green 23mm tire on the rear, a black leather saddle, pink cloth handlebar tape on the right, bright blue cork handlebar tape on the left, an STI lever for the rear, a downtube non-indexed shifter for the front, a sidi genius 4 shoe on my right foot, a pearl izumi shoe on my left foot, transparent water bottle, MTBr knickers and a quick step jersey....

guess what?

It was still a good ride

As long as you match the saddle & bar tape, orange would be fine.

The only drawback is that you might not be able to find good quality colored tires. These are Cheng Shin tires, wire bead, nylon belt. They are a bit heavy but I was going for the black & orange color scheme, so a small concession to ride quality. But they are very durable tires. And they're cheap. Got mine from Niagara Cycle

I buy coloured tyres for my commuting bikes because they are often on sale.
I don't care about the colour... (yellow, white, ...) as long as the tyre is good.

Rules ? What rules ? I thought the only rule to riding was to ummmm ride, or run whatcha brung. Here is my rule breaking white framed, red tired, white wheeled, blue cabled steed.

I actually just replaced my Pro 3s with some white Pro 4s. I figured I would try white just to see what it would look like. I love the tires so far. Service Course.

Get whichever tires you think look good. Preferably those that will cause the most irritation to those with a spoke up their butt.

The drop dead gorgeous Ridley broke the "bar tape must match the saddle" rule. You might have to give up the sport
