Cyclists from Southern California and all over the world visit the Palos Verdes Peninsula area to enjoy the great roads and trails and the amazing ocean views. PV Bicycle Center now adds another great reason to visit this part of LA's South Bay.

The most difficult part of riding a bicycle in the Palos Verdes Peninsula is staying on the road. Not because the roads are poorly paved. They are beautifully groomed and maintained. Not because of irate motorists who don't want to share with those who are motor-free. PV residents are well known as being at peace with runners, cyclists, and horseback riders. And not even because of the hilly, winding terrain, since most of the roads are wide and well banked. The difficulty comes because your are distracted by the unparalleled vistas and spectacular seaside panoramas, not to mention some of Southern California's most amazing homes.

Now, adding to this idilic bicycle world is the newest Specialized Concept Store in the US, PV Bicycle Center. Into this extraordinary community comes a cycling store so beyond the ordinary that it is the perfect fit for its environment. The careful design and plan of this retail jewel could only have been accomplished by an artist. In this case a musician who could carefully craft a melody into the chords and rhythms of the concerto that was already in place. Enter Steve Bowen, stage left.

Until just a few short years ago, Steve Bowen was making his living on and off Broadway as a conductor, arranger, and editor of music ranging from rock to Gershwin, from Dixieland to Musical Theatre. His next debut will be bringing his off Broadway bike shop to the big time in the Peninsula Shopping Center.

"Our goal is nothing less than to have the very best bike shop with the best customer experience in all of Southern California," Steve tells his staff for the umpteenth time. And PV BIcycle Center's owners and crew have gone all out to meet that goal. Teaming with the cycling powerhouse Specialized Bicycle Company, no expense has been spared in creating this new venue. From state-of-the-art audio and video equipment to provide ambiance and information to the "best fitting facility in Southern California," the store is beyond amazing.

When you enter the store you can't help but be struck by the elegance and sophistication designed in by Steve and Specialized. "One of our main goals," explains Steve, "is to make this facility as inviting to women as it is to men." The colors and stylistic touches feel more like Nordtroms than a traditional male-oriented bike shop. But there remain plenty of elements to attract the testosterone crowd.

When you drop by, pay special attention to the ceiling treatment. See if you can spot evidence of a Grand Piano in the sky. Steve says it wasn't intentional. Either way, it says everything about this new cycling waystop in the middle of bicycle paradise.
