Another in the long list of threads about mystery noises. I've had numerous mechanics look at this and tried many methods to solve it myself with no success.

After a crash that knocked out my 9 speed 105 shifters, I recently upgraded to a full 10 speed ultegra drivetrain. Ever since doing so I've had a slight clicking noise when pedaling under heavy load -- aka when starting up (seated) and when hammering uphill out of the saddle. Thinking it must have been lack of grease on the BB, I had that regreased and tighted, which reduced the noise ever so slightly. Since then I've checked everything else I can imagine: for a crack in the frame, derailer alignment, spokes, skewers, seat post and rails, I greased the front derailer on the frame, re-tuned the rear derailer, tightened the crank arms as much as possible, regreased and tightened the stem, made sure no cables were sticking out, replaced the pedals and freehub.... You get the idea.

After all this the noise remains, but pretty much only as two clicks when I start pedaling and reach the downside of the stroke on the drive side.

I have not replaced the chain because it is brand new and I cannot detect any stiff links.

Any insight would be appreciated...

I did check the chain ring bolts, cages, handlebars. The freehub is tight and the cassette has the proper spacers. I believe it is always in the same part of the stroke, but every once in a while I'm not positive of this.

Is it possible the chain is a dud? I've lubed the spoke nipples, but I'll try a wheel switch just in case. I don't think it is the fork, but anything's possible.
