Hi there all,

I am a new rider. I am fairly fit and love to ride. I have been reading some of the posts here and have a question. What should I be expecting to do as far a how far, long, hard and often I should ride. I am currently up to 4-5 days about 12-17 miles each day in approximately 50 -70 min depending on the day. Is this enough? Can I ride farther and more often without risking injury? Of course, I do stretch before and after. Any suggestions???

Thanks
Stacy

I don't stretch b4 or after.

I ride up to 100 miles a day. Most in a day was 140. Other people do 200.

To do more miles - you have to ride longer.

Try doing 20 miles.. then 30 miles on some day the following week.

People do crazy events such a Mountain Mama (13,000 ft of climbing), Blue Ridge Extreme ( 15k climbing?)

Just go for it.

After you hit about 6-7hrs a week of training, don't increase your weekly volume by more than 10% per week. Injuring yourself in cycling due to riding too much is hard to do unless you jump from 5hrs to 30hrs in a week. Make sure if you feel any abnormal discomfort (sore knees, painful back/neck, saddle sores) you stop after that ride and seek someone experienced to help correct the pain.
