I cleaned my drivetrain yesterday using some some degreaser, i don't know the brand off the top of my head. This morning i noticed on my way out that it had left what appeared to be a salt-water mark on the crank and spots on the rims. I found it odd and tried to wash it off thinking it may just be some soap that didn't wash off, however it doesn't wash or rub off. It doesn't appear as though it's corroded the surfaces, just left a stain which is a pain to look at. Has anyone had anything similar happen or know how to clean it off?

It sound like corrosion to me. You could try wiping it off with some ammonia.

In the future rinse or wipe down your components with water after you're done cleaning them with a solvent.

Sounds like you "etched" the finish. If that is the correct term. I spilled some industrial degreaser on some brand new dura ace crank arms a few years ago. I found nothing to remove the spots. Pissed me off.
