Looking at the specs on http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fantom_cross_preorder.htm#specs it's obvious the bike is a clone of a mass produced lower-priced cross bike (Fuji Cross Comp??). But then I got to thinking: $695 delivered = sell off the Tiagra shifters and wheels for a few bucks, pop on some lighter/better replacements and be in a new cross bike for less than $800.

Not even close to a great deal of the century or one of those "found it at a garage sale for pennies on the dollar" but for a new cross bike to race and not worry about dumping....see, I'm already defending my sickness.

105 10speed for $900. Not bad. It doesn't say if it's 130 or 135. If it's 130, it could make a good pit bike for those running Shimano.
Yeah, I always forget about the X-Ray. Ibex looks be a great deal. One of there reps used to respond to questions about their bikes in this forum a year or so ago. He took some of our suggestions -- at least the one about cable routing on the top tube.

It doesn't say on the website now, but I remember looking into these before, and I believe they have a 135mm spacing. FWIW.
