I tried the "cool wheel" thing, and it was disappointing to say the least. I bought some Mavic Ksyrium Elite's, and they are back at the factory being rebuilt. They wouldn't stay true. I weigh 200lbs, and am not a racer.

My mechanic suggested Mavic Open Pro's, DT Swiss spokes, laced to 2006 Ultegra hubs. I've been riding them for 400+ miles now, and they are stiff, roll great, and are whisper quiet. They are also dead true after some really hard miles. I'm impressed. They lack the "bling" factor of most wheelsets, but for $235.00/pair I'm over that. You can also get them repaired at any bike shop if you throw a spoke.

Good luck in your search for wheelset nirvana.
:D
