yes

I'm running mine on a Pentium 4 1.5 ghz with Windows ME, 512 mb ram, 64 mb video. Works perfectly fine. In fact, I can run the progam and watch a TdF DVD at the same time on that computer.

No issues with serial to USB adapter.

oh, and

Never used it to race directly. You must have a dial up modem, which connects directly to the other user. It's not internet based. I asked the company about this, and no plans to change.

An alternative I have done a bit, though, is to record a race and then email that file to someone, who can then race against your saved performance (and they can email one to you, etc). Works reasonably well, although the latter person always has a slight advantage.

My wife is the one that was talking about getting on before next winter! And we both use macs so yes I will be buying a 500$ computer to run it only. I will if I wait get two units but I want to know if a new software package is on the way as I have heard.
Keep in mind that today's $500 computer is probably better than a $3000 computer that is 4 years old. Just make sure you have a good video card, with more memory the better; I'm no expert, but I would avoid the ones that used shared main memory.

I have never had a single program glitch while running mine, and I have tons of other programs on the computer. Heck, I run mp3's, Excel, and DVD's while running the CT program in 3d mode, and no problem. Of course, YMMV -- computers can be very finicky.
