I'm planning a trip to the UK sometime Summer or Fall... I used to go a lot but haven't in 3 years as the exchange rate has been so bad. That said, it seems to be leveling out a bit these days. I was almost thinking about converting some cash to stirling now to be on the safe side but I've seen differing predictions online as to whether the pound would continue to slide.

Anyway, does anyone have any advice or thoughts on that idea? Here's one report that I found on-line that predicts it will continue to fall. I guess I'm wondering if anyone knows how solid these predictions normally, etc... Any help appreciated!

P.S. Would converting some $$ to Euro's be a smart option? I haven't checked where the Euro has been headed so just throwing that out there...

Forcast is that GBP will continue to weaken, which means you will get more GBP per Dollar than you will get now.

Last July you could get 50 GBp for every $100, now you get around 70 GBP/100 USD...if it goes to 1.35 you get 74 GBP/USD

I'd wait.

Your chart is bad....this morning it was 1.42.

You can just wait until some Eastern European country defaults on its loans, and you'll probably be able to buy all the GBP you'd like for a $1.

it used to seem to trade very close to 1.5-1.6 dollars to the pound. seems like converting a little now wouldn't be a bad idea, but it looks like further weakening is likely. how much do you plan to convert? i don't trade FX, but i don't see this going 1-1, so think about how much of a difference it would make too.

I would maybe convert 5K or so I'm guessing...

I'm leaning towards taking my chances that it might dip a bit lower... and if it does grabbing up more than I intended to. Again, thanks for the insight!

Parrt of my job is to hedge GBP/USD swings. If it bumps to 1.50, I'm locking in enough to cover my UK subsidiaies purchases for the first 6 months of 2010, that's how sure I am that it's more likely to go down than up. I've alreasy locked in the rest of this year at 1.55.

If that helps at all.

Wouldn't it be a lot quicker to just lay down a couple hundred bucks on "red?"

Can't speak for rest of the year but they have really dropped last 2 months.
I bought a Tme RXR Ulteam frame, SLR saddle and 2 Supersonic tires for 2506 GBP in Dec from totalcycling which was about $3755 USD. Anyway, they have been in back order until yesterday. I got a confirmation email that it finally came in stock and the order was processed. I check my Capital One statement online today and the charge was $3505.
I was pretty thrilled to save $200 for just waiting.....:D
Not only that, it looks like they took a big price increase in RXR frame since I ordered it.
