Is anyone planning or has anyone participated in the Door County Century Ride in Wisconsin this year on September 7th? It'll be my first time up there and I'm looking for any recommendations on hotels. This place is a tourist magnet so that means inflated hotel prices.

Although we're not quite up to a century ride, we enjoy Door County and head up there every Memorial Day weekend to ride through Peninsula Park. We stay at Homestead Suites. The location is great! It's right next to the park. They have whirlpool suites. Great way to realx after a long ride.

looks like the century starts/ends closer to sturgeon bay than the "touristy" part of door county. most of the touristy stuff starts in egg harbor and goes north. most all of the chain-type businesses are not located north of sturgeon bay, so dont expect to find starbucks, walmart, mcdonalds, or holiday inn once you go by stugeon bay. however, you will be able to find those businesses within sturgeon bay.
many of the hotels and inns will have discounted rates after labor day, but being as this is a big event, they may keep the prices up through the weekend. i suggest looking at the chamber website:
https://www.doorcounty.com/
you can also do a search for a house using this:
https://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa/wisconsin/door-county

we rent a house up in sister bay, which is probably a bit far. however, i do believe the route goes right by the house. at least a door county ride goes by the place we rent, but there is one in june as well. you will know if you ride by base camp coffee. thats at the bottom of the aptly-named hill road. roads are mostly flat, but when there are hills in door county they usually go straight up. not for too long, but they can be steep.

here are our pics from door county this year:

my solo ride pics start here:

clisk the picture to see a few shots from my ride.

if you can, stay a few days. ride through penninsula state park. climb the tower. rent a kayak and paddle to horseshoe island.

I've done this ride about ten times at least. Since I live in Green bay I normally drive up the morning of the ride with others. The best place to stay is anywhere you can get a room—Sturgeon Bay, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek are the closest to the start. If you camp, Peninsula State park is really nice (if you can get in).

The ride itself is well done, supported and pretty easy—only about 2500 feet of climbing total. Only one short hill that is steep. Have fun.

The weather can be hot or cold, it is Wisconsin in September.
