I've finally been getting back on the bike on a regular basis after almost five weeks of no riding. Decided to go down into downtown Reno to see what interesting stuff was going on during the Kayak Festival. I got there too late to see most of anything, and except for being yelled at for not walking my bike on a closed, but empty street (I guess I was disturbing the dust), it was boring enough that I decided to check out some alleyways.

After the Intersting People

Went and zigzagged some alleys and downtown casinos. Lots of people and lots of dodging. But heck, what is urban riding without practicing the art of dodge. And then it was back to the house.

Yeah,

I want to know what they are all riled up about.

I like the stuff you shot.

I was shooting with my Canon 30D and a 12-24mm Tokina. I'm trying to get better with the DSLR. The pics lost some detail as I used Picassa to do my editing, but I really like the lense. I just need to learn light better.

I'm not sure what the petition was for. They were so busy getting excited that I missed what it was all about. I sure like the people though.

Ooooohhh... I've lusted after the 12-24mm ever since reading Ken Rockwell's review. I've been missing wide angle ever since going digital. I still have my 20mm film lens but of course that camera doesn't see the light of day any more. :(

Is there a reason that Picasa loses detail, other than the default jpeg setting being low? I'm a new convert to Picasa and have been very happy with its tools and ease of use. But I hadn't bothered to study the pixels to evaluate losses...

I'm not using the maximum quality setting to help the pictures load faster. Also, I've noticed that if I play around too much it kills the quality. Most of these are due to the reduction in quality for the posting though. The lens works fantastic IMO. Very clean and nice shots.

I loved the back alley photos

We don't have alleys like that in downtown Phoenix. The alleys we do have are gravel, and not much art adorns the garage doors. At least for what I've seen, and I work and bike commute in Downtown Phoenix.
