Traditionally a race that allows some of the lesser stars of the peloton to shine, in light of the cancellation of Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, The Three Days in Western Flanders Race may take on added significance.

Omega Pharma-Quickstep are sending Cavendish and his go-to lead-out man Terpstra, Radioshack Leopard Trek will send Devolder and young hopeful Jungels and MTN Qhubeka has the veteran Ciolek ready to go.

One wonders if the others might not be shadowed by the presence of Cavendish and Co.?

Here's the Start List/Startliijst:

This race will probably be over-shadowed by Paris-Nice which goes off on Sunday - but Cav might just want to make a go at this to add to his growing palmeres...

Prologue

Middelkerke (ITT) 7km

A dominant showing by Omega Pharma-Quickstep headlined by a win for local favorite and Belgian National TT Champion Kristof Vandewalle has kicked off the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen race with a bang. Race favorite Mark Cavendish is only 12 seconds out of the lead.

Respectable showings were also put in by RadioShack Leopard Trek, FDJ and Argos-Shimano - so the battle-lines have been drawn.

1) Kristof Vandewalle (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) 0:08:09

2) Tiago Machado (RadioShack Leopard Trek )0:00:08

3) Gert Steegmans (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) 0:00:09

It's probably safe to assume that Omega Pharma-Quickstep will be out front tomorrow!

Stage One

Brugge - Herelbeke

With Gert Steegmans (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) taken out by a crash, Niki Terpstra (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) moves up to third on GC - otherwise the GC was not altered by the sprint victory of an Accent Jobs rider Danilo Napolitano - no doubt benefiting from the crash that took out Steegmans and disrupted Omega Pharma-Qicksteps lead out for Mark Cavendish.

Despite this unexpected result, Vanderwalle and Omega Pharma-Quickstep remain firmly in control of this race.

And Radioshack lost 8 bikes to thieves the other day. I guess they've made arrangements to have spares?

Stage Two - and Final Results

Nieuwpoort - Ichtegem

Gerald Ciolek won MTN Chubeka's first stage by securing the sprint victory in Ictegem. Omega Pharma-Quickstep continue thier Classics roll by taking both first and third place on the final podium. Swede Tobias Ludvigsson of Argos-Shimano put in an excellent showing to finish second. So three different teams can take good feelings away from this year's Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen. Others may have to re-assess.

Your Final Podium:

1) Kristof Vandewalle (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) 8:33:22

2) Tobias Ludvigsson (Swe) Team Argos-Shimano) 0:00:06

3) Niki Terpstra (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) 0:00:07
