what are people's thoughts on drilling bottom bracket shells to let water out? what are the pros and cons?
it appears that the pro is that it lets out any water that might get into the frame and keep it from sitting in the bb shell. the con is that it also lets water in, though it doesn't stay there. i assume i could come up with some sort of plug to keep water from getting in through the hole, but take the plug out to let water out.(?) has anybody done something like that? does dirt getting in cause a problem? are there ever concerns about the structural integrity of the shell?
thanks.

Many frames have a plastic bottom bracket cable guide screwed into the bottom bracket. Just remove the screw and you will have your "hole". If the guide is loose then, just put a dab of glue to it.
Any wetness that splashes up inside won't hurt anything because all modern bottom brackets are semi-sealed.
