The bicycle dates back to the early 1800's, bifocals date back even earlier, but it wouldn't be until 2011 when Louis Viggio would bring the two together. Viggio, no stranger to the bike industry, discovered he could no longer read the small numbers on his bike computer and cell phone while out for a ride. Not able to find a solution to his problem with the current options in eyewear, he decided to take the challenge on himself. In mid 2011, Viggio soft launched the brand Dual Power Eyewear, a line of modern styled cycling glasses featuring a discrete magnifying optical power area in the lower half of the lenses. The "optimized magnification zone" of his new line, essentially allows athletes who normally require bifocals an on the bike solution to reading the numbers and data on their cyclometers, GPS devices/power meters, and watches.

The line launched with three styles, Dual V6, Dual S4, and Dual SL2. All three models are available in +1.5, +2.0, or +2.5 spot diopters, and feature a shatterproof and scratch-resistant polycarbonate lenses in either a Smoke (gray) or Brown lense color. Both colors provide 100% UVA, UVB, and UVC protection. Something to note - Dual Eyewear recommends considering a magnification level that is a bit weaker than what you would normally choose to read.

Feedback on the glasses has been quite favorable. The optics are sharp and clear, the "optimized magnification zone" is well placed, and only requires the user tilt their eyes down for a glance at their computers. When not focusing on the digits and readout of a computer, the zone is small enough that it doesn't affect the overall view while looking ahead. It does take some time to adjust to the smaller zone when trying to read off the bike as the zone is optimized for riding.

Priced at just $49 per pair, these relatively lightweight (20 grams), surprisingly well built sunglasses are great for those that need a little viewing aid.
