Actually, still riding at 87 is great. Burning yourself into the ground, not so much.

Evidence is beginning to point to the following:

He was riding a Trek
His clothing had WC stripes on it
The cigarette got caught in the cone of his aero helmet
His seat was too high.
He didn't wave back.

The nylon jacket caught on fire... I find it odd he didn't take it off. If an article of clothing I was wearing caugth fire, I'd probably try to take it off, and if that failed, start rolling.

I passed that guy the other day on the MUT - I waved and he didn't wave back.
