All energy drinks, marketing hype aside, are salt and carbohydrate, plus maybe caffeine or a caffeine equivalent. Some drinks make some people sick, while other people love the same drink. You have to try things and see what works for you. There's no magic in any of them. They offer convenience relative to eating food, but if you're not riding flat out, then eating real food may work better for you. Add some salt and some salt substitute (for the potassium) to whatever food you're eating, and you have all the "benefits" of an endurance drink without the sticky mess all over your bike or the high cost. Carrying water plus food also allows you to separate your hydration needs (which depend on heat/humidity) from your energy and electrolyte needs (which depend on distance and intensity).
