emonda vs domane

Hello everyone… New to this forum! I got a question. I bought an emonda SL 6 about a year ago, and finding out that the domane would be a better fit given the aerodynamic position of the eMonda… And with my age :) so, I'm considering selling the EMonda and upgrading to a Domane SL 6, OR… simply changing out the stem so i am sitting more upright. I'm loving the lightness of the Eminda and would hate to trade it in for the heavy Domane. Any thoughts?

Check to see if your stem is set up with negative rise. If so, just flip your existing stem and see if that helps. You can set up each of those two models to have the same reach and stack, so the Domane in itself may not be the answer.

looks like there is a bit of a rise in this stock stem the emonda came with.

You could always switch the stem for one with a greater rise like one of these:

They come in different lengths too.

You could also flip the handlebars slightly up so the hoods are a bit higher. Just don't overdo this adjustment or you could strain your wrists.

Your stem is on top of 50mm of spacers which is 10mm too much, AND you've got aero bars? Sketchy. And you bought the wrong bike.

Rather it sounds like he had a salesperson who sold him the wrong bike.

What's done is done. He either has to make this one work for him or sell it and get a Domane.
thanks Lombard… much better put👍🏼. I currently have the Emonda on marketplace, but until then I’m going to make some adjustments…

Hmmm. If you don't plan on keeping the Emonda, I wouldn't make any changes to it as that will lower its value.
good point… Although if I put another stem on it, raising the bars more, I could always exchange that back…?

Yes you could. Have you changed a stem before? If not, be extra careful you follow directions here so you don't cause an accident:

Did you buy your bike at a bike shop? If you did, don't go back there.

Please. You bought the wrong bike...the sales guy sold you the wrong bike...whatever, you now have what most would say is not the right bike. If you need to hear it in a more sugar coated fashion you won't have a good time on the internet.

The salesperson didn't hold a gun to his head and make him buy it. It's as much the OP's fault as anyone's.

Please please please check where your expansion block is inside your steerer. you have too many spacers under it as it is. If your expander block (plug) is too low, it makes it even worse.

CX may be a little prickly and grouchy sometimes, but he's telling you what you need to hear.

You like the lightness of the Emonda, but you put aero bars on it? (this makes the sketchy stem situation even worse).

My advice would be to get the domane (or some other bike that fits) and ditch the aero bars (unless you are racing in triathlon/time trials on closed roads).

All good advice here including the part about @cxwrench . Give him a back rub and he will be a soft and cuddly bunny.
Better a good mechanic with a lousy "bedside manner" than a lousy mechanic with a good "bedside manner".
