Ok so I'm getting my dad into cycling, and have finally talked him into clipless pedals and shoes. He doesn't want to spend a lot of money (talking sub $100) and it's been a while since I bought a cheap pair of road shoes. Any suggestions?
Try Shimano SH RT-50. They're road shoes designed to use SPD pedals. Cleats are recessed, for easy walking, but there aren't any rubber lugs, a la MTB shoes, to drag dirt into the house and add weight to the shoe. Usually available for about $75, with cleats well under $100. They're nice and stiff, but comfortable and very walkable.
