even a limited V-10 screams in a whine.

smaller cycliders usually are higher pitched. No that is everything that is right with F-1.
The driver changes his braking, fuel mix,traction,etc.. everything on the fly. so besides driving like a bat out of hell they are calculating brake wear, fuel load, airflow.
Talent and smarts. Beats the hell out of driving in circles pretty much wide open for an hour or so.

and that proves my point

F-1 drivers are smart enough to realize there is nothing un-macho about using all your safety equipment.

Or using stuff to make the car drive itself better than the driver can.

Or maybe part of what makes F1 neat is that it's also a competition between constructors to see who can build the best car using the available technology.

True, but it seems like a waste to me...I've just never gotten interested in F1 at all. I'll just watch DTM, ALMS, or motorcycle racing instead.

watch an F-1 race

when you see them flying around nose to tail and the announcers let ya know the dricer is having to adjust his fore/aft braking to compensate for a full fuel load because he's going for 1 pit it gives ya a good idea how good these guys are.
brakes are wearing, driver adjusts, something messes with his traction, driver adjusts.

So besides having to just sit there and race they are (trying at the same time) to get the absolute optimum out of their cars.

it's cool that the metrics (driver adjustments and such) get relayed to the announcers by some teams. They have multiple techs watching very aspect of that motor. It's crazy, it's high tech it's the Ab Fab of motor racing.

plus F-1 Chicas are Hot and Rich!
