It was 24 when I left and couldn't have been more than 28-30 when we took off. There were only 6 and my guess is 3-4 were definitely racers. Anyway, it was fun in a painful way but I did finally get out there. I was able to draft some and even did an uphill pull. One guy told me I'd be in the middle of the group that usually shows up so...I'll be out there next week hoping to get more experience and stronger.

It just proves what all of you say in here is true. You've got to get out there and ride in those groups. I thought I worked hard alone but I really pushed harder with those guys.

anytime you ride with stronger riders you work much harder than you can by yourself. i use the group rides for my intense days twice a week. there are very few if any time that i get dropped anymore. just keep it up.

I've been doing my local group ride for two years, and I still get dropped.

But, each time I get closer to hanging on. Gotta have goals, right?

Riding with faster riders makes you faster. Just keep at it. It took me a long time before I finished my first group ride without getting dropped.

I agree with everyone. Riding with faster people makes you fast in a hurry. A friend of mine told me how he used to do this group ride with all the fastest guys in the city. It was fast enough that he go dropped every time. Even when he was riding professionally he got dropped on this ride. I think all in all he only hung on once. But.....either way.....he got faster from it.

If its any consolation my first three races I got dropped like a bad habit. So far behind I looked for 'turn offs' off the track to hide down.

Suddenly the fourth I hung onto the back. Suddenly, amazingly because you suddenly realise how hard you need to train, all your rides you just ride that little bit faster and hey presto, before long youre hanging onto the bunch, even thinking about making breaks.

keep at it, it will all fall into place!
