I'd go Blackburn or Bontrager, but Topeak and Specialized are good too.

SKS Airbase Pro

German made SKS rocks! I'm using the same pump, no overhaul, for last 8 years. SKS USA is in IL and has fantastic customer service. I needed a new head and the sent it @ n/c.

What make and model floor pump should I buy for my road bike tires? Who has the best prices?
There's lots of choices, but one that stays at the top of the list year after year is the Silca Super Pista. Some are as good, but it's pretty hard to argue that any are better, it's extremely easy to replace worn out parts, and you can always get replacement parts.

I love my Silca pump, but I hate the head. If you take the Silca pump and the Specialized head I think you are close to perfection.

What's wrong with the Silca head? I've never had a single issue with mine. At least it's not some plastic POS.

I also heartily recommend the Super Pista, BTW.

After too short of a time the washer inside the head does not hold well. I assume this is wear from using threaded valve stems or from jamming the stem into the head too far, and that I need to get a replacement washer. Or I'm not smart enough to use an air pump. Also, I like the more positive engagement of the Spec. head.

I've been using mine for eight years with the original washer, mostly on threaded Prestas. At least you're able to purchase new washers instead of tossing it in the garbage.

They are all the same to me. I buy one, use it until the head gives out, then cut off the head and put on a brass Silca head.

Those things last forever. So do, it seems, most pumps, once you get the plastic heads off.
