Hi all,

I have a Kaffenback that I love, except for one issue: if I turn the bars too sharply, the brake cable hangs up on the shifter cables (which have stops on the head tube/down tube junction, and makes my front brake lock up.

I tried crossing my shifter cables, to allow a bit more room, but it still does it. Annoying as fock.

You might try one of these. It's not a very good pic, but you'll get the idea. I think Tektro makes them. Mounts the cable stop at the fork instead of the stem, so you've got housing running past the shifter cables.

and - I dig the format for your bike blog. Very clean.

Here are the pix

Yeah, this happens while I'm riding. Mostly when say U-turning on a bike path, and it tends to dump me off the bike if I'm not careful.

the only real issue with using a mounted cable stop is that the fork is not drilled all the way through. I suppose that is easy enough to fix.

And thanks on the comments on the blog. I have not kept up on that particular page at all. I've been keeping one over at pimpbot.wordpress.com... if you can deal with my occasional leftie/liberal/progressive rants.

I don't see too many options for you here, the very forward location of the DT cable stops are really the cause. The fork mounted cable stop may help and will likely improve or eliminate most of the cross-up, but probably not all of it.

A v-brake might help also, if you can stand the sacrilege.

Step down ferrules

Will work to replace the barrel adjusters. They will have a tip that is small enough to fit inside the threaded stop on the frame. You'll lose the ability to have barrel adjusters there and it won't look as smooth. This is really a pretty common problem on headtube mounted cable stops, although it's usually not a problems that affects much in real world riding. How often do you have your bars turned so far? I agree it can be annoying though. good luck
