If I swap out a 105 triple crankset (50/39/30) to a 105 double (53/39), do I need to change the 105 STI shifter as well? Beside some adjustments, will there be any issues with the FD?

Do not start the shifter in the middle position. Reason for this is that even if you set this up, you still will have a 2nd downshift in the front shifter. You want to limit the 2nd shift up to the big ring with the front shifter.

Just set it up with the first sweep of the shifter to make the shift. All adjustments need to be made at the FD.

I use a triple shifter with a double setup with no problems whatsoever.

I start at the 1st position. and the limits adjustment is made by the FD
