And I thought I wrote some silly thingsGall said:Hello,
During tonights group ride I hit over 50 mph on a decent using my new 46/34 crank attached to a 12-27 cassette.
I was able to use a lot more gears while in the 46 .
So far so good!
come to the track sometime...40mph sprints on 50/14. 'course i wouldn't want to do it for more than a few hundred meters!Mr. Versatile said:At 50 mph you weren't pedaling. If you were you were just soft pedaling or just moving your feet. Even professional riders who use lots larger gears than you rarely pedal on descents when speeds reach >35.
46 x 12 @ 50 mph = 166 crank rpm w/ 700C wheels and 700 x 23 tires.pdh777 said:50 MPH on a 46 x 12 would be well over 140 rpm - someone can figure it out exactly (don't know the formula).
You weren't pedaling (pushing the gear with those RPM's)
