I like Garzelli a lot. He earned my admiration after I watched the 2003 Giro DVD. Garzelli hadn't raced in a year after being banned for an odd-ball doping allegation. But in the DVD, you learn he still trained every day over winter as if he were going to race, using notes he'd taken during the previous season. In that Giro, he goes after Simoni & pushes him to the limit. Garzelli never, never eases off. And his crash with Pantani that cost him a chance to win is very poignant; Pantani had been doing well, realizes it's all over after the crash, is seen sobbing by the roadside. Garzelli jumps back on the bike to finish the stage, bleeding & obviously in pain. Later you learn Pantani finished it too, bless his heart.
