Got a cheap (I mean, inexpensive) frame for my kid from Performance....I peeled off the downtube label, and it left a gooey residue. I don't want to harm the clearcoat with any remover, so what is recommended. I would hate to give him a gift that is marred.
Getting decals off?

Goo Gone will work as will WD-40 or even Mineral Spirits. They should not harm the finish in anyway.
