I'm thinking of buying a bike with the following specs:

Giant TCR 1 (2000 model)
9spd full Ultegra grouppo
Drivetrain replaced last year including bottom bracket
Rims replaced in the last 2-3 years with Mavic reflex ceramic (new old stock)
44cm handle bars

All for 500$ CAD. This would be my first road bike - I'm training for a triathlon, so i'm hoping to put in 200km or so in it per week.

My question is, is it worth the money?
Also, what are some things to look for when buying a used road bike?

thanks for the help guys

If in excellent condition, it could be worthwhile from a utilitarian standpoint. I'm just lost to how good the wheels are (rebuild quality), however.

Look for rust, cracks, creaks, run the gears to see if it shifts well, check the tires for wear, check the wheel true, pad hardness, if it fits you. Unfortunately, the human eye won't catch every little thing, so whatever's left is a case of putting your trust in the seller.

Isn't that the 1st gen aluminum tcr Team Once won the team time trial on?
I had the small size so it had the aluminum truck like ride softened up by the nice banana fork.

By 2000 Giant might have introduced the first CF tcr to market alongside the alloy- I was describing my 1997 tcr.
