Giro d'Italia - Stage Three

Note: This thread may contain a spoiler. Do not read further until you have seen the stage for yourself or have no objection to a spoiler.

Can the Maglia Rosa and his team hold on to the pink for another day?
Barred anything unforeseen, this stage would seem to favor the man in pink's chances.

Stage Three: Tortoli to Cagliari, 148 km

This stage has all the earmarks of a Sprinter's paradise. Mostly flat roads to a finishing stretch which is about 800M long on a 8M wide road. A fast and furious finish seems in the cards.

This route will favor the Maglia Rosa and his team as long as they do not allow the sprinters to get too far out in front. The GC teams will likely mark each other and allow the sprinters one of their few shots at glory. The team of the Maglia Rosa will need to be vigilant and at the point of the peloton's spear guarding against the outside risk of a breakaway. Watch-out for coastal crosswinds as the peloton rounds the point for the ride northwest into Cagliari - the unwary might be in for a nasty surprise.

So - no change is likely in the Maglia Rosa, but we will get some inkling as to which sprinter and sprint train are set to light up the Giro and fight to retain the sprinter's jersey.
