Anyone else get that funny/tingly feeling when you see college girls wearing t-shirts that read "I <3 Greek" or "Go Greek!"?

Aside from the lecherous mind. I don't get the whole sorority/frat thing.

Fraternities are known for a pronounced fondness for a game called "cornhole."

Nothing surprises me anymore.

Although I have friends that have been in them, I really don't understand 'em either.

I guessing the girls are into "cornhole" since they're wearing those t-shirts.

So, is that like an STI, but different?
Gawd Damned Independent (i.e., unaffiliated with Greek life--originally a derogatory term for non-Greeks, coined by the Panhell set.)

I never got the whole Greek thing, either, but that may have been a function of the times (mid-1970s were probably a low point for Greekness being cool, at least until the release of "Animal House,") and my campus, where we had a campuswide Greek life participation rate of 11%. Whatever the opposite of cool was, that was how Greek life was perceived at my alma mater.

We used to crash their parties all the time, though.

Hum, supposedly my school is insanely greek - it's 33% and from what I've heard, one of the greekest schools in the country, culturally. I guess I'm so out of the loop that I don't even notice. I've got my cycling buddies, and we go to the bars that the Greeks don't go to (there are 3 or 4 dive bars on campus), so we have no interactions with them at all.

My freshman year I faux-pledged. Free beer! I quit doing that when somebody asked me if I was pledging and I said "Yeah, I love Psi Upsilon!", and they responded with "Uh, yeah, this is Delta Pi" or something... It was awkward and I exited shortly thereafter.

I lived in a sorority dorm at UT since in the state of TN it's illegal for 4(?) or more women to live in the same house together w/o a man.....as it's considered a brothel.....I never found much substance to those girls.

The guys were mostly people who needed social interaction at all times. I had no trouble making friends or getting to parties. I didn't feel a need to dress up, get paddled by dudes and drive drunken brothers around for my dollar.

I pledged a fraternity my freshman year based on the handful of guys I knew in it. Once I met the rest, I dropped out before being initiated. I couldn't handle the thought of being associated with some of those a**clowns. Still got to go to all the parties though...free beer & VIP treatment...with none of the BS the rest had to go through.

Where I went to school the Greeks were just school-recognized street gangs. Most of the crime, vandalism, and mischief on campus and a good percentage of problems in town could be traced back to Greek Row.

I was GDI that married an Alpha Phi. It was quite interesting at our wedding with all of her sorority sisters and big brother ZBT's.

We always had plenty of cheap, cold beer and easy women at our fraternity house. Getting drunk and laid for $6 is majorly appealing in college. Hell, it's even MORE appealing to me now and I graduated college in 1990!

Srsly, there's plenty of appeal to being in a fraternity. If you want to play intramural sports, then you have an instant team for every season. Lots of parties, girls, etc. And they are not all the same. If you can find one that fits your personality, then it's a good thing. Sorta like ROTC or being in the marching band or athletics or the physics club. It's just a gathering place for like minded people. If it's not for you, then it's no big deal either. Almost all our parties were open to the full campus and we always had fun. Regardless of who was there.

The Lounge is basically a giant co-ed, online fraternity.

Pretty much this. I enjoyed my time in a fraternity and made some great friends there. And like Innergel, our house was wide open to the campus and pretty well known for our laid back, fun, drama and fight free parties.

I was never in one and always felt a bit superior because I was such a non-conformist, but later on I met some people in frats and they were nice people and had a ton of fun with their fraternity brothers. I think I may have actually enjoyed fraternity life.
