Sad news.

Time Out was my gateway to jazz. I will never forget when I first heard it as a freshman in college. That album and Kind of Blue were the soundtrack to my freshman year.

I 1st heard him as a kid in Chicago on channel 9's "Late Show". "Take Five" was the introductory music for the movie of the evening. He was a Master, hell, he still is.

Didn't he die in 2012?
yes, in 2012

I got to see him play a year before he died at an amazing concert he put on here in Victoria. Sold out and with a strong band, he was still flawless on the keys at age 92, long solos and all.

I met of his sons many years back (around 1986).

I didn't know a darn thing about Jazz in general much less who they or their dad was back then though. Which was probably good because being clueless saved me form acting like a star struck fool as I probably would now after having learned how freaking amazing the old man's music is.

His son's were really nice guys.
