I found this and it seems like it will do a lot and is selling for a tremendous discount. If you read the details it's missing the SIM card. Will a $5-10 Sim card replace it and is it necessary?
I want speedometer, tripmeter and odometer. Everything else I'll grow into.

The Garmin's do not use sim cards. It's not a feature at all.

I believe this is an error in the posting because they copied the listing from a 'Renewed cell phone template'. If you scroll down to the 'What is Amazon Renewed'
"Shop for smartphones, computers, laptops, tablets, home and kitchen appliances, game consoles, office products, and more. Visit Amazon Renewed"

It's just standard verbiage.

If you go to the product page, you'll see... no Sim card. It pairs to your cell phone.

FYI, when looking at your listing, I saw this one too. It's $10 more but comes with a 2yr accident repair plan.

I think the Amazon renewed devices are a great deal. Garmin charges WAY too much for their 2010 tech to begin with. This brings them down to a more reasonable price.

Caveat: the renewed Garmin Edge 530 I purchased dropped my heartrate sensor often and would almost never connect to my lights. On the + side, Garmin honored a warranty claim and sent me a new-renewed unit. The new one hasn't dropped the HR sensor and did connect to my lights. However, as I mentioned with the 2010 tech, the connection was stupid and I ended up deleting the connection to the lights and operate them manually now. So, personally, I wouldn't pay extra for a warranty even for the renewed device. YMMV.

Garmin cycle computers (and watches) can connect to a free app called Garmin Connect Mobile. It installs on iPhone or Android. It connects to the GPS device via BlueTooth and can send location data to the web or use a feature called Live Track to allow somebody to track your location (can be turned off). The completed ride data can be uploaded to the Connect web app, as well as courses you have created in advance to be downloaded to the Explore for navigation use, all using the Mobile app. Very useful app and connects to the web via WiFi (if available) or cell data. Better than a SIM card which other systems (hammerhead) uses.

This is not a bad unit as by tthe way, decent price for all it does.
