I'm working on a survey to determine why participation on our group road rides is down this year.

Problem is, I've hit a little "writers block" in trying to make the survey funny.

This is your chance to submit a question for the survey - multiple choice style questions preferred.

GO!

So, fellow cyclist, why are you not participating in our group ride this year? (lame question)
a) Too many Mellow Johnnies and Tom Boonens (racer type attitude)
b) Too many hairy legged dudes with baggies (not racer-boy enough)
c) iPods and squirrels (perceived unsafe riding conditions)
d) Those dudes with no shirts and weird bikes (triathletes)

Those are the main reasons I've heard of for people avoiding group rides. With semi-witty choices. If I think of anything better I'll post up.

1) Bibs need to be washed more than once a month.
2) It's not a good idea to invite your friend with the recumbent on group rides
3) It's never a good idea to tell your friends that they look "HOT" in cycling shorts.
4) You need to see somebody about that gas problem.
5) It's never a good idea to tell you friends.."You guys really suck"
6) Never sing on a group ride.
7) Remember, it doesn't hurt to ride over 14 mph on a group ride.
8) Stop yelling "CAR BACK" at the top of your lungs, when a car is a half mile back.
9) Maybe the people who ride with you, just don't like you.
10) The number one reason is probably that you are just too good to ride with them.

I am not a mountain goat - too many hills.
You are all wimps! - too few hills.
I am a inbetweener - too short or too long.
I am a weekend warrior - not enough rides on Saturdays.
Been there and done that - more new routes please.

1) I go to real races, so parking lot championships aren't necessary
2) Men on group rides bother me
a) They hit on me
b) They feel the need to attack only when I'm in the front of the paceline
3) It's not necessary to swerve around every bump or manhole in the road
4) It doesn't take 25 people to change a flat tire

Maybe with the price of gas being so high some folks would rather ride out of their homes then transport their bikes to a designated start..
I always ride from home as do many other people on our group rides. It's about 7 miles extra (one way) for me and even less for most others.

Now you're talkin'. This is a biggie for me. Not everyone lives in a area where it's always a reasonable ride to the meeting place. Members of our group come from an area with a 25 miles radius. We change up meeting places so no one has to drive along way all the time. In past years we did rides with up to an 90 minute drive away. This year with the price of gas there are fewer of those scheduled, more people are carpooling to rides, and fewer people are showing up to every ride. I used to drive 30 minutes into Santa Fe on Sundays we met there. Now unless I have other reasons for wanting to be in town I skip those and ride closer to home.

Q: Why would anyone consider riding in a group ride?

A) Because getting crashed by that guy with clip-on aerobars is my idea of a good time.
B) Riding behind guys drinking water when at the front of the pack is really fun.
C) Pros ride in groups, so shouldn't I?
D) Cycling is a social sport.....isn't it?

There are no rides that leave within 15 miles from where I live.
The rides are usually at inconvenient times.
I don't like to ride with the "tourista" class.
I don't like riding fast, or with racers.
I'm afraid of riding in pacelines.
I'm afraid of riding on roads. I like to use bike paths only.
None of the rides go where I want to go.
My idea of a nice ride is one of no more than 10-15 miles, with a picnic at the halfway mark.
Everybody is a better/faster/more experienced rider than me.
