Hello, I'm a noob.

My old commuter got stolen, so I bought a bike that I thought would be cool. I didn't really like the handlebars and shifters. I tried to fix the shifter and broke it. I want to set it up with handlebars and shifters that I would like. I have some questions about compatibility.

Would these parts be compatible?

• 8 speed shimano sora rear derailleur
• MTB trigger shifters such as:

SRAM x4 Bicycle Trigger Shifter Set 3x8 Speed Left and Right New with Wire x 4 | eBay

• 25.4 stem clamp & 22.2 brake clamp Handlebars such as:

Vintage French Upright Steel Handlebars 25 4 Clamp 21" Wide 4 1 4" Rise | eBay
​

• 26mm stem with a shim to clamp to the 25.4 handlebars

Thanks for any help. My deadline for leaving is April 3, so I may have to scrap this project.

New question: Would a SRAM derailleur be compatible on the shimano cassette?

For sure, you won't be able to run your SRAM shifters with your Sora RD. their actuation ratios are different. You may however, find old SRAM gripshifts that are compatible with Shimano.

is there any way to use trigger shifters with the Sora RD? I've heard there are those little rotating circles that change the travel travel of the line by changing to a different arc radius. Would those or anything else work? I feel like trigger shifters are the best option because they're cheap, comfortable, and functional.

I believe sram makes shimano compatable trigger shifters. But im not at work to look it up right now. If no one answers by tommrrow ill look up and get you an actual answer.

The older SRAM Attack shifters will work with Shimano. The X4 won't.
