I was looking for an HD camcorder to play with and do some short films (no not pRon). Probably be mainly outdoor shooting on hiking and climbing trips, so light weight, battery life and memory are the main things I'm interested in. Been looking at JVC Everio HD camcorder, but don't know of anyone who has one. So what say-eth the lounge? Any recommendations from the in house video experts? Trying to keep the cost under $500

I have a Canon vixia or whatever they call it. It's good enough. It uses an SDHC memory card in addition to internal memory, but I guess the card is slower because they limit framerate if you're shooting to it.

I wouldn't get one that's hard drive based, and I wouldn't get a Sony because they use a proprietary memory card format.
