I think you'll find this will continue to be an issue. I had the same setup as you and the same issue. Also, the Cateye seemed to eat batteries like it hadn't been fed in weeks. So I switched to a Polar CS200Cad and no longer have any issues. Granted, I wanted both an HRM and cadence....and in a wireless flavor if possible, although I wasn't married to the idea of wireless.
