Hello all,

I am considering replacing my old faithful bike and I have shortlisted two:

Look 695
Colnago c59

They are both outrageously good bikes.

Anyway, I would like your advice on frame sizing.

I am 177cm tall with a 84cm inseam.

I want the bike for group rides, grand fondos etc and don't expect to be any significant amount of racing.

I think that in the 695 I might be a medium. I could probably ride a small to provide a more aero position.

In the C59 I think I could either ride a 50s or 52s - the former for a more racy position, but the latter may suit my requirements more.

Could you let me know your size and what you ride and/or your advice based on my requirements?

Go to one of the sites (Competitive Cyclist comes to mind) and do your full measurements, determine your limiting factor. Flexibility will come into play once you have frame size nailed down, at that point you need to look at stack and reach.

Get a C59 in 55cm traditional

As a reference, I am 1.80 with a bit shorter legs, so 84cm inseam.

for that reason my fit range is more between the 54-58.

I have tried Colnago sizes 54,55,56 custom ( with lower top tube),56, 57 and 58

I prefer the regular 56 on a 120mm stem, it provides the most balanced ride for me as I have a longer torso, but the 55cm was the best for leg lenght reasons.

As you are 3 cm shorter, the 55 would be the best fit IMHO

The C59 52s is the closest fit to this: TT is 55cm, so 1cm little under the low range (and is comparable to a 54cm C-T). The 50s is 2cm under.

Now you have some real data to start working from.
As a comparison the same calculations put me on a 56 TT frame and I'm 183 with 89.5 inseam (in my case TT/Torso length dictates frame size on std geometries).
